Main Stage - Quakecon 2011

Saturday, August 6th, 3:30pm CT

Our thanks go out to the organizers of Quakecon for allowing us and our partners to put together a show that we are proud of every year.  We love giving back to the community of enthusiasts and gamers that drive us to do what we do!  Get ready for 2 hours of prizes, games and raffles and the chances are pretty good that you'll take something out with you - really, they are pretty good!

Our thanks for this year's workshop logo goes to John Pastor!!

Our primary partners at the event are those that donated a good amount of prizes and also threw in for some of our hilarious new workshop Tshirts!  Our thanks to Corsair, NVIDIA and OCZ Technology!!

System Build Contest

To mix things up, we are going to be holding a system build contest where a couple of lucky, randomly selected participants will be brought up on stage to build a computer LIVE and in person - first one to get to Windows desktop gets to KEEP THEIR SYSTEM!  Specs are very impressive:

  • Corsair Graphite 600T case
  • Intel Core i5-2500K  CPU
  • MSI Z68A-GD65 G3 motherboard
  • PNY GTX 580 Liquid Cooled GPU
  • Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 Memory
  • Antec High Current Gamer 620 watt PSU
  • OCZ Vertex 2 60GB SSD
  • Western Digital 3TB HDD
  • Thermaltake keyboard and mouse combo

Not too shabby, huh?  Make sure you are in attendance for your chance to utilize those PC-building skills!

Case Mod Competition

Along with the Hardware Workshop, PC Perspective is sponsoring and judging the annual case mod contest!  There are two categories for the competition: "from scratch" and "pre-fab" that will allow those that build their computer enclosures from the ground up to compete separately from those that heavily modify their existing cases and systems.

On Friday the PCPer staff will be wandering around the BYOC area looking at the various entries for the mod contest (sign up to enter at the information booth in the BYOC) and will then select two finalists from each competition category, "pre-fab" and "from scratch".  Those finalists will be asked to bring their systems to the Hardware Workshop on Saturday to show off the designs, explain the detailed work that went into each and what they learned during the modification process.  On stage we will select one of the two competitors for each category as the WINNER and all four participants will take home some kick-ass hardware, the category winners will each get a bit more on their plate!!

Have questions?  Email casemod@pcper.com!

System building competition seems like a lot of fun, but what will you be installing the OS from? :-)

Tim w/Nvidia was a horrible speaker. Doing rock/paper/scissors with a giant collective group to determine free prizes was quite unprofessional and chaotic. People could barely hear the raffle numbers being called while all the chaos ensued due to stuff being thrown into the front rows. While free stuff is great, I feel like the event was a waste of time due to how unprofessional and unorganized the whole even went off.

or rather I think his name was Tom. Was hard to hear with all the people fighting over tshirts... the same people with a fistful of tshirts fighting over yet more tshirts.

Wow you guys rock, as usual we walked away with a bunch of good stuff, My daughter won one of your raffles for a case, power supply, ram, video card, motherboard, (can't remember what else she said was in there) She called me on the phone because I could not make it this year and she was screaming.

Thanks a lot

Thanks for a great QuakeCon. Amazing amount of prizes! I know time was limited, but I think people would prefer for everyone to have a chance to win something instead of giving away stacks of 3-5 products to one person. The number ticket system is a great idea and seems fairer than just throwing things to only the first few rows. Thanks again. I was blown away by the amount of swag you brought for us!
