Yet another KT133A motherboard passes through our system here at Amdmb.com. We can tell from our comparison of the Gigabyte 7ZXR motherboard against the Asus A7V133 motherboard that the 7ZXR is viable contender in the performance category, beating the Asus board about half of the time.

That being said, the Gigabyte board runs in at about $20 more than the A7V133 board also. Can you justify the extra money in anyway? The Gigabyte RAID is slightly better, at least straight from the factory, as the A7V133 only supports RAID 0. The 7ZXR was very consistent in benchmarks and was incredibly stable.

If you are an overclocker, you might want to check out the 7ZXR if you don’t mind the placement of the dip switches and the inability to go higher than 150 MHz FSB. But if you are like me, you do mind. I like to fiddle with my motherboards after they are installed and unless you have a HUGE case with lots of room and properly organized cables, it’s probably not going to be possible.

Gigabyte has a good performing motherboard here, with just a few flaws. Unfortunetly, a few flaws add up over time. Poorly placed dipswitches (or lack of adding all the Bios options) and poor placement of the IDE connectors kept this motherboard from taking a very high spot on my list of KT133A motherboards. If you are looking for solid stability and not very interested in overclocking your system or changing it often after it’s installed, the Gigabyte 7ZXR motherboard makes a great choice. If you want a solid overclocking board that you can access easy and change often without hassle, you may want to look elsewhere. A good attempt, but a few fixes could make it much better.
