Overclocking and System Setup

As is the case with most of the lower priced processors, there are many people that want to overclock them. The Duron processor runs standard on a 100 MHz EV6 DDR bus. I was able to get the 1.0 GHz Duron to run at 133 MHz x 7.5 for a 1.0 GHz speed without any trouble. Not surprisingly, I could even get it to 1.2 GHz (133 x 9) without any tweaking or extra cooling. Using voltage adjustments and FSB increases, the fastest I was able to run and boot the 1.0 GHz Duron was 1.35 GHz.The new core doesn’t seem to have affected the overclocking potential either positively or negatively. The Duron is still one of the easiest processors to get some extra power out of without much cost to the consumer.
For our system setup, I decided to use the Epox 8K7A motherboard. It was one of just a couple motherboards that I had lying around with a Bios publicly available with support for the Morgan and Palomino cores.
