VIA Apollo KT266A Chipset Review - Chipsets 15

“Wow” is the only word that really came to mind after seeing these scores. I ran this test at least ten more times, waiting to see it drop to the 190’s or something, but it never happened. The KT266A reference board has a lead of about 9% on its closest competition, the SiS 725 board and has an almost 10% lead on the AMD 760 chipset. It has been a long time since we have seen numbers that differ this much on the Quake III tests.

Similar results are seen here, though they are less extreme than on the low resolution test. The KT266A chipset still manages to achieve a 3.7% lead in the framerate.

The KT266A chipset oddly falls into the last position on this test, though by less than 1%. The only deduction I can make is that since this test relies almost 100% on the video card, that perhaps the AGP drivers/bios are not as mature yet.
