AMD Duron 1.1 GHz Morgan Core Processor Review - Processors 23

The story of the processors continues here with the Duron 1.1 GHz showing a modest gain over the 1.0 GHz model, but still falling behind the 1.4 GHz Athlon Thunderbird. These professional graphics programs do show that the Duron with the Morgan core is a solid competitor considering its low introductory costs.

AMD Duron 1.1 GHz Morgan Core Processor Review - Processors 24

Just as with the results from the SiSoft memory tests, the Duron systems fall behind the Athlon test results because of a greatly decreased memory bus. Overclocking the Duron processor to 133 MHz FSB should negate nearly all the differences you see here.

AMD Duron 1.1 GHz Morgan Core Processor Review - Processors 25

For this excellent benchmark that runs a model of atoms colliding, we see that memory performance is as important as clock speed, pushing the Duron 1.1 GHz nearly 30% behind. I can assure that the Morgan core on the Duron is helping that score, as the Duron 950 MHz, which had the original Duron core, was much less than even the Duron 1.0 GHz score. We’ll see this benchmark scale almost as high the other direction in the days to come with AMD’s future releases.
