The MSI K7N420 Pro doesn’t do very strong in this low resolution test, coming in under 5% slower than the Dragon motherboard.

That story flips here as we push the resolution up a bit to 1024×768. In 16-bit color mode, the MSI board beats out the KT266A solution and basically ties it in the 32-bit color mode.

At the highest resolution, the gap between the MSI and Soyo boards widens: in the 16-bit tests MSI comes out ahead by about 2.5% but loses in the 32-bit test by about the same.

The alternating win-patterns for the MSI board on the differing color depths is mostly attributed to the way the nForce chipset handles the AGP bus. With the on-board video coming into the picture, even when disabled, the AGP bus may have performance issues with the larger textures of the 32-bit color mode tests.
