Abit KR7A-RAID KT266A Motherboard Review

Abit motherboards have a long history with the PC enthusiasts. The first to truly introduce the world to overclocking processors, Abit introduced many features that we see today as almost being standard. This includes the Soft-Bios options, RAID and others. While their volume of sales worldwide is not quite as impressive in comparison to others such as Asus and ECS, when you factor in their lack of OEM sales, the sales numbers are very good indeed.

For the past couple of motherboard chipsets for the AMD processors a trend has begun that no one can quite explain. Abit is introducing new motherboards later and later after the chipsets introduction than many of the other motherboard makers like Epox and MSI. This is becoming a problem as far as board sales go. While many enthusiasts would like to have Abit solutions in their systems, the fact that Abit boards aren’t around when the hype of a chipset hits means the buyers will have to look elsewhere.

The Abit KT7A board was one of the latest KT266A boards to hit the market (hence the late review of the board here). If you remember correctly, back in my Abit KG7-RAID review, I claimed it to be too little too late on the last AMD-760 chipset motherboard review here. Because of this, the board did not fair as well as we are used to seeing Abit boards do against the competition. I don’t think their situation is quite as bad with the KR7A motherboard, but with the pending SiS 745 and VIA KT333 chipsets you can never be too careful.
