The Quake III benchmark has been one that Intel has continually dominated in because of the sheer clock speed advantage they enjoyed. If you look at the 640×480 numbers, you can see the 2.53 GHz P4 had a big advantage of the previous top Athlon, the 2200+ by a little more than 11%. Taking a look at how the 2600+ Athlon performs, you can see it bests out the 2.53 GHz P4 by almost 5% in the lower resolutions. As the resolution increases though, all three processors converge to a single level within a percentage point of each other.
