Test Setup and Benchmarks

After taking it all apart and playing with it, I came about the problem of deciding how to best test and benchmark it. I had three dozen or some benchmark programs laid out before me, but it didn’t seem like the same tests and results were going to fit the use of this item and what its audience was intended to be.I then decided that gaming benchmarks weren’t fair under these circumstances. The on-board video of the SiS 740 chipset simply wasn’t designed with gamers in mind and wasn’t meant to compete with the ATI and NVIDIA chipsets of today’s market. And showing you scores in the low 1000’s for 3D Mark 2001 would do nothing but give the wrong impression about the use of the desknote unit. This left me with the general performance benchmarks like the Sysmark 2001 suite and the Winstone tests. In the end, these were the only two tests I would use to display the potential for the i-Buddie XP.
As for something to compare the desknote too, it would also be out of place to put in the best KT333 motherboard desktop system with it – the latest and great desktop technology isn’t where ECS is trying to take this product into market. My best estimate was to choose a low cost desktop system to compare it to using the same chipsets and video. This fit the description of a circumstance in which a person was deciding between buying an additional PC to put at their office for example, or getting a desknote to travel back and forth with.
So, here is the setup for the Desktop 2000+ system you will see in the benchmarks. The two systems are actually very close in specifications.
