The 2001 version of Content Creation Winstone shows the Athlon XP 2700+ to out perform is 266 MHz FSB brother, the 2600+ by about 6% and the 2.8 GHz P4 by 7%.

Here Intel has a much better performance on the 2700+ processor, but is still falling slightly behind in the numbers. But, again we see the 2700+ beating the 2600+ by a very reasonably 7%.

Once more the Athlon XP 2700+ wins over the P4 by just more than 3%. You also need to keep in mind that the 2800+ was also released today, so the performance gains over the comparable Intel platform will be that much more.
