System Setup and Benchmarks

Cards

I am using a PNY GeForce4 Ti4600, and I am testing it with both the Detonator 30.82 and Detonator 40.72 drivers, so we can see what NVIDIA’s supposedly much-faster Detonator 40s are doing compared to the 9700 Pro.

System

I’m using my own personal system to benchmark everything—it has been freshly formatted with Windows 2000 and the latest official drivers for each card are installed.

  • AMD Athlon XP 1600+ @ 1680MHz (10.5×160)
  • 512MB Crucial PC2100
  • Epox 8KHA+
  • 80GB Western Digital Special Edition
  • Envision 19” Flat
  • ATI Catalyst 2.3 drivers
  • NVIDIA Detonator 30.82/40.72 drivers
Benchmarks

I tried to choose some relatively graphic-intensive benchmarks, which is why for the most part I’ve chosen a limited but straight-to-the-point benchmark suite.

  • Unreal Tournament 2003
  • Wolfenstein MP
  • Serious Sam: Second Encounter
  • Comanche4
  • 3D Mark 2001: SE
  • Vulpine GLMark
  • CodeCreatures
