Some color changes and flaws may appear. The Leadtek K7NCR18D nForce2 motherboard was more than able to hold its own against the only competing motherboard, the Asus A7N8X. The gaming scores on the Leadtek board show that they have a significant gain in speed on the AGP/memory configuration and may be benefiting from additional time to tweak the bios. As we get more and more nForce2 motherboards onto our test benches, we’ll be able to tell if it’s the Leadtek board running ahead of the crowd or if the pre-production Asus board just wasn’t ready for the retail testing as of yet. In either event, the Leadtek K7NCR18D motherboard is a worthy upgrade for most users, with maybe the exception of the recent KT333 and KT400 motherboards. If you want an nForce2 motherboard now, I have no problems recommending this Leadtek solution. We currently haven’t seen a faster setup for the Athlon XP.
As I stated at the beginning of the review, the new NVIDIA nForce2 chipset is the best out there for the Athlon XP processors, including and especially for those users who plan on purchasing 333 MHz bus processors. The one thing that will hold the sales of these boards back is the cost and availability. As of this writing, there was only a single retailer carrying an nForce2 chipset motherboard on the Amdmb.Pricegrabber.com service. And coming in at nearly $150, it isn’t a comparatively low cost solution by a long shot.
If NVIDIA and their partners can get enough product into the channel that these prices will come down, everyone will benefit as users pick up on this and begin to actually buy them! Most people will not spend a significant amount of additional money for the speed gain that we have shown here – but if the faster solution were on equal pricing, the decision would be simple. We also need to see the boards from Epox, MSI and Abit come into the fray and bring competition on Asus and Leadtek. I can’t wait to see the roundup on these motherboards, as it will be quite a competition.
If you are looking for prices on nForce2 motherboards, or just about anything for computers or technology, I ask that you give Amdmb.Pricegrabber.com and try and see how you like it!
