Again, seeming to have a change of heart in the world of enthusiast motherboards, the Tyan Trinity KT400 bios has a lot to offer a user looking for a powerful motherboard. The DRAM Clock Control menu is unique in that it offers the user a single spot to edit a lot of memory timing options. There are more options here than I can even understand, so some tweaking and guessing and checking were definitely in order. 🙂 See the image below for a complete list of them all.

The Frequency/Voltage Control menu is where you can find the options for overclocking the processor. The Trinity KT400 gives you options of clock rates up to 200 MHz and CPU ratios from 5x all the way to 22x. Even more impressive are the available Vcore options: you can choose either to set the voltage based on a (-0.100v — +0.175) range or just set the voltage outright up to 2.20v! For the DIMM voltage, you can again select from a range of (+0.025v — +0.175v).

Box Contents

The box contents on the Tyan Trinity KT400 are rather slim. You get only a single IDE and floppy cable along with a case plate, IDE RAID and SATA drivers on floppy discs and a manual and driver CD. Not much spectacular there, so if this is a new build, be prepared to buy additional or rounded IDE cables and SATA cables if needed.

System Setup

Our system setup for the current generation of AMD motherboards has stayed consistent (something that is necessary if you are going to have a comparable motherboard review. I decided to go ahead and compare the Trinity KT400 to its KT400 competition, basically including it in the KT400 roundup we did in November.
