A few months ago, we believed that we would be reviewing AMD’s latest flagship desktop processor today – the Athlon 64 3200+. However, with the launch of the faster Athlon 64 FX-51 processor, the Athlon 64 3200+ is caught in the shadow of its sibling.

Athlon 64 3200+ Review - Forgotten CPU? - Processors 30

There should be no surprise that the Athlon 64 3200+ processor will not be the fastest processor in AMD’s lineup – after all, that is what AMD is planning on; leaving the Athlon FX line to be the cream of the crop. But if you have looked for any Athlon 64 motherboards before launch, you’ll see that there are precious few motherboards for the Athlon 64 FX-51, but numerous for the 754-pin Athlon 64 processor.

With that in mind, I feel, as do the motherboard manufacturer’s themselves, that the Athlon 64 3200+ processor will be the better seller on this launch day. So I wanted to get a hold of one of these puppies to see exactly what you can expect from a much lower cost processor on this AMD Athlon 64 desktop launch day.
