BIOS Features and uGuru Tool

Abit has always been known for their quality bios features and the number of overclocking options that they offer. Unfortunately, the Athlon 64 platform is the limiting factor on a lot of the potential that Abit has in the bios.

The first screen we see is the SoftMenu that gives us a lot of overclocking and tweaking options.

We have the ability to change the internal processor bus to anything between 200 and 300 MHz.

Interestingly, there is a multiplier option, but it seems to be locked at the processor default.

There are four voltages you can adjust as well: the CPU, AGP, DDR and HyperTransport bus. There menus and corresponding maximums are shown below.

Part of the uGuru suite, the FanEQ controls in the bios work with the Windows software to control the speeds and thus the noise of the three fans (processor, north bridge, OTES).

Abit uGuru Software

The Abit uGuru tool is actually a combination of a Windows based software application and a hardware monitor chip on the motherboard. The software is able to report on the status of the hardware and allows the user to change certain settings while remaining in Windows.

The OCGuru section of the application allows you to change the FSB of the system and the voltages to the processor, memory and AGP buses and apply them without the need to reboot the system. Saved profiles are available as well so you can easily switch between some of your own pre-tested overclocking configurations.

Also included in the uGuru software is the ability to monitor and control the three bios monitored fans we should you above. You can view and choose the display method for graphs that show real-time performance of the fans and the temperatures and allow you to scale them up or down depending with your desired noise and cooling balance.

Finally, the BlackBox tool allows you to easily submit a trouble shooting report to Abit. The software fills in the necessary information about your system, its settings, and you fill out the problem information to be sent off automatically to the Abit support team. This is a great step for users looking for improved customer service with their motherboards.
