Seasonic Special Features

Here is a brief overview of the various special features included in the Super Silencer and Super Tornado units.  Each feature is common to both models unless otherwise noted.

Super High Efficiency (up to 80%)

Seasonic power supplies are designed to surpass the market average efficiency of 68% at full load.  This means more AC power is converted into usable DC output and less into heat, which results in a system with lower operating costs and reduced heat output.

Forward Converter (advanced DC-DC converter design)

Seasonic uses a special DC-to-DC converter circuit incorporating a power MOSFET switching at ~100 KHz.  This circuit design provides higher efficiency, better stability and increased reliability than the more traditional half-bridge converters that use bipolar transistors.

Active Power Factor Correction (99% PFC)

Improves power factor from the typical 60~70% to a near-perfect 99%, which improves energy utilization by reducing the input current.  Active PFC also makes Seasonic power supplies more environmentally friendly by minimizing harmonic distortions.

Universal Free Input (100-240V full range)

This feature eliminates the manual AC voltage selector switch found on most PC power supplies. It allows the PSU to automatically detect and use any AC input voltage between 100-240 VAC and can help prevent damage if the wrong input voltage is accidentally selected.

Smart & Silent Fan Control (S2FC)

Seasonic power supplies incorporate variable speed fans, which increase fan speed (and airflow) as the internal PSU temperature increases.  With a light load the fans are very quiet but under a heavy load they may speed up and become noticeable.

Soft-Mounting Rubber Cushion Fan           (Super Silencer Only)

The 80 mm fan used in the Super Silencer power supplies is mounted to the rear enclosure wall with rubber grommets.  This helps minimize vibration noise for quieter operation and longer life.

120 mm Cyclone Cooling Fan                     (Super Tornado Only)

One of the Super Tornado’s most unique features is the use of a single 120 mm fan.  This fan blows air into the bottom of the power supply.  The larger fan is able to generate more airflow with less noise than the more common, rear mounted 80 mm fans.

Ultra Ventilation – Honeycomb Structure   (Super Tornado Only)

To go along with the 120 mm fan is the honeycombed rear panel, which allows warm exhaust air to flow out of the Super Tornado power supply (and computer) with minimal restriction.  The honeycomb design provides >70% open area.

Cable Management Kit [Dr. Cable]

A package of wire ties and plastic spiral wrap is included with each Seasonic power supply to tidy up messy wiring.  Doing so can help smooth airflow and improve overall cooling.

3-Year Warranty

Seasonic offers a 3-year warranty on all of their power supply units.  This is one of the best in the industry and demonstrates their commitment to quality.
