Test Setup
There are two different ways to approach the benchmarks that we are going to show you. The first is to try and look at each of the components that are changing on the new platform and attempt to evaluate them separately, if at all possible. The other is to take this new Intel platform and simply compare the end result to the best that AMD is offering, and Intel’s previous line of products. I attempted to do both for you, by providing you with the DDR2 and PCI Express performance pages before this one, and by providing you a good look at both sides of the picture here, in our full benchmark analysis as well.
We compared the new Intel 560, 550 and 3.4 EE 775-pin processors to the Intel 3.4E (Prescott-core) 478-pin and the Athlon 64 FX-53 939-pin. All these pin counts are going to drive me nuts…
Here is the CPUID info for the Intel 560 processor. Notice the new cores come up as Xeon processors, as the program doesn’t know what the CPUID is.
The same for the Intel 550.
And for the 3.4 EE 775-pin processor. It correctly identifies the cores on the EE processor.
And finally, here are the results for hte 478-pin Pentium 4 3.4E Prescott processor.
Here are the system setup tables for each of the three platforms being compared
