GeForce 6800 GT – Fort and Dam Demos

After testing the 6800 Ultra with the new patch, I was curious to see if the benefits were the same for the lower clock speed of the GeForce 6800 GT graphics card.

Because we saw the main differences between the SM2 and SM3 paths on the high resolution with AA and AF turned on, I decided to just run the additional tests at these levels.  On the Fort demo run, we are seeing a small change in the Shader 3.0 patch, almost 3 FPS on the Avg FPS and a slight increase in the minimum as well.

It would seem that the GeForce 6800 GT, running at 350 MHz instead of the 400 MHz of the Ultra model, isn’t able to utilize the benefits of the Shader 3.0 path in FarCry by quite as much.  In our Dam demo, the Avg framerate increases just over 1 FPS and the Min FPS just 2 frames.  Looking at the time graph, we can see that there are a couple of times in the demo, towards the end, where the red line (SM2) dips down below 20 FPS and the blue line (SM3) does not. Though the gaming experience does increase a bit, its not enough to make this resolution playable on the GT.
