The Cooler Master Hyper 6 HSF comes securely packed in a colorful box that serves as both shipping container and display case. The bulk of the package weight is due to the Hyper 6 HSF and not the assorted accessory items.
In addition to the Hyper 6 cooler, the package also contains:
- Universal retention module (P4 and K8)
- Universal backing plate
- Spring mounting clips (2)
- 80mm variable speed fan
- 3.5′ Bay bracket for mounting speed control
- PCI slot bracket for mounting speed control
- P4 retention module mounting screws (4)
- K8 retention module mounting screws (2)
- Fan mounting screws (4)
- Syringe of thermal grease
- Printed Installation Guide
The base assembly is made of two pieces, which are bolted and soldered together, sandwiching the heat pipes in between. The forged base is solid copper with a 40mm x 40mm machined pad on the bottom. The finned upper piece looks like polished copper but is actually copper-nickel plated aluminum.
The base has an excellent machined finish and comes protected with a piece of blue plastic film, which obviously must be removed before installation.
Twenty-seven thin copper fins make up the top fin assembly. Each fin is approximately 85mm x 69mm and has serrated edges for increased surface area. The fins are welded to the heat pipes for optimal heat transfer.
A U shaped aluminum shroud is attached to the copper base and allows mounting either one or two 80mm fans. This offers good flexibility for a number of different fan configurations:
- (1) Fan pushing
- (1) Fan pulling
- (2) Fans in push-pull
P4 mounting hardware utilizing 4 corner holes
K8 mounting hardware utilizing 2 center holes
The universal mounting system is designed to work with either Intel P4 or AMD K8 processors, and motherboards. An insulated steel backing plate can be used with both platforms. One side of the backing plate has four (4) tapped holes for socket 478 and the other side has two (2) tapped holes for socket 754/740.
Two spring steel mounting clips engage into the corners of the upper mounting frame, securely clamping the Hyper 6 cooler in place on top of the CPU.
The Hyper 6 comes with one 80mm Cooler Master labeled fan. The fan incorporates a built-in speed control and both a 3.5′ bay cover and PCI slot bracket are included for mounting the speed control potentiometer.
