Image Quality

Doom 3

Here I am using a savegame on Doom 3 to get repeatable image quality testing.  All of the images were captured using the Doom 3 capture tool (default F12) at 1024×768 resolution, as I see that as the sweet spot level of IQ for a $200 graphics card.

Without AA enabled in Doom 3, aliasing can appear, though not as frequently because the game is usually so dark.  Looking at the upper left side of the image, you’ll see a light overlapping the hand rail that creates a good spot to test the AA performance.

Flipping back and forth between these two images from running both the NVIDIA and ATI card at 4xAA, you can see that the IQ is nearly identical here as far as AA is concerned.  Both do a pretty good job hidding the aliasing througout the hand rail on this 1024×768 resolution.

UT2K4

To test both AA and AF, we used the same level in UT2K4 that we benchmark with, the ONS_Dawn level.

Looking at the floor directly in the center, you can see the tiles get fuzzy very quickly moving away from you and also note the heavy aliasing that occurs on the horizontal white “lights” that run half way down the screen, parallel with the ground.

The corrected images from both ATI and NVIDIA show good IQ enhancements with the AA and AF features, and quality seems equal to both competitors in this instance, even after flipping back and forth between the images for several minutes.
