Overclocking
While we were going to do it anyway, its always interesting to hear the manufacturer tell you to try and overclock their part to see what headroom the chip has in it.
What could we achieve using the stock cooling and the Coolbits driver mod? We were able to get the system to run at 600 MHz core and 600 MHz memory, but we got slight articfacting during heavy action times in Doom 3. Toning it down to 590 MHz core and 575 MHz memory speed was our happy end! That is a 18% core GPU overclock and a 15% memory speed overclock very easily and at no extra charge. Quite impressive. But where did that put us in terms of performance?

Here we see in Doom 3 that the overclocked 6600GT gives us a nice little boost in performance in our “max playable” settings of 1600×1200 0xAA and 1024×768 4xAA.
