3D Mark 2001, being the oldest of the benchmarks, is much more CPU-bound as the video cards have increased exponentially since this programs release. Again, the AMD processors are simply the best performers here.
3DMark03 is pretty graphics card dependent, as we see all the scores from the 8 processors are within a few percentage points of each other.
The latest 3DMark benchmark is showing a different story, however, as the Intel processors are coming out ahead of the Athlon 64. The differences between the varying models of each processor brand are very minimal, showing us that the 3DMark05 engine is much different than previous versions and that it is able to use the PCI Express features on the Intel S775 platform to its advantage.
These CPU tests show similar results though the AMD and Intel processors are much closer competitors when taking the video card and PCIe out of the story.
