Components and Design
The Gigabyte 3D cooler-Pro HSF arrived packaged in a colorful, see-thru box and included everything needed for installation.
In addition to the 3D Rocket cooler, the package also contains:
- Spring mounting clips (P4, K7 and K8)
- Power cable
- 3.5′ Bay bracket for mounting speed control
- PCI slot bracket for mounting speed control
- P4 LGA775 retention module with screws
- Syringe of thermal grease
- Printed Installation Guide
The cooler base is made of forged copper, which attaches directly to the four heat pipes.
The base has an excellent machined finish and comes protected with a piece of red plastic film, which obviously must be removed before installation.
Two sections of aluminum fins make up the fin assembly for heat dissipation (38 fins in the upper section and 17 fins in the lower). The integrated blower style fan pulls cool air in thru the upper fins and exhausts the warm air out thru the shrouded central slot and lower fins. The shroud directs the exhaust airflow downwards (Rocket) to help cool components on the motherboard around the CPU socket area (voltage regulators, NB, etc). The shroud can also be removed for slightly better performance.
The top of the cooler is sealed with a clear plastic cover. Inside there are four blue LEDs that illuminate when the system is running.
There is a small circuit board on one side where the power (4-pin connector on the right) and speed control (3-pin connector in the center) cables plug into. A separate RPM signal wire with 3-pin connector comes out at the base of the cooler, which can be plugged into a motherboard fan header to monitor the 3D Rocket fan speed.
The universal mounting system is designed to work with either Intel P4 or AMD K7/K8 processors, and motherboards. The 3D Rocket Cooler-Pro uses a single clip for AMD K7/K8 processors, which attaches to the three lugs on either side of the socket. The P4 mounting hardware utilizes two spring clips.
A special clear plastic retention frame is supplied for use with the Intel P4 LGA775.
