Application: Winstone Tests and Webmark 2004
Once again the Intel 3.46EE processor takes the lead in the Intel results, but AMDs hold on the Winstone tests remain as strong as ever.
For this review, I decided to split the varying tests that comprise the Webmark and Sysmark scores up and compare them individually as well to see if the the processors showed differences in the individual tests outside of the overall results.
Information Processing ‘Portal’, ‘Research’ and ‘Training’ websites are created to represent common Internet sites and activities that fall in this scenario.
Portal: This site represents Intranet portals that offer company news, organizational updates and serves as a one-stop shop for employee services and Intranet applications. The workload follows the course of an employee who visits the company’s Intranet portal site.
Research: This site represents activities that companies perform as they research customer issues or claims. The workload follows the steps of a doctor in a medical insurance company that receives insurance claims from various hospitals/HMOs. An Internet infrastructure streamlines claim processes and thus saves time and resources for the patients, doctors and insurance companies. Doctors research the claims and the medical data and determine if the claim can be approved.
Training: This site represents those activities involved in the delivery of rich media content and data visualization for online training classes. The workload follows the course of an electronic chip design engineer who visits company’s training website for product information and training.
Commercial Transactions ‘Purchasing’, ‘Finance’ and ‘Marketplace’ websites are created to represent common Internet sites and activities that fall in this scenario.
Purchasing: This site represents activities involved in the purchasing of goods or service from an online retailer or merchant. The workload models the steps of a purchasing manager of a small retailer who visits the web site of a large wholesale store that offers a variety of consumer goods for purchase by small retailers.
Finance: This site represents activities provided by financial institutions for delivering trading services or financial information utilities such as stock quotes. The workload models an online brokerage house that assists traders in trading with other agencies by providing trading services and information utilities like charts and prediction models.
Marketplace: This site represents activities provided by an online marketplace that offers interactive tools to assist buyers and sellers in marking purchasing decisions. The workload follows the course of a homebuilder visiting a house builder’s market place showcasing housing components from many different suppliers.
The Intel 3.46EE sets a new record for this benchmark on all three results and it is able to take the win back from the FX-55 on the commercial transaction test.
