pcp_canals09 – Ultra High End Cards

By far the most GPU demanding level on the game, our demo is based on the “d1_canals_09” level that features a lot of water effects, and not a whole lot more.  You are on a water craft trying to avoid the water mines being dropped by the helicopter above.  The water creates excellent reflective effects and the spary effect of the helicopter is nice as well.

In our demo, the character runs through the canal, avoiding the helicopter and mines, and then enters a drainage tunnel, which is where you see the increase of FPS occur in the graph below.  Then it drops again as you go outside again and quickly return inside, where I crash and then stop the demo.

Even at this low a resolution the ATI cards are showing a performance gain on the parts of the level with the most water effects.  This is no doubt the reason that ATI showcased this level to the press.  Notice however that once the player is inside the tunnel towards the end of the graph, the NVIDIA cards take a performance lead.

Here again we see ATI has a pretty good lead.  For NVIDIA, its the min FPS that is hurting their case as it drops to 32 FPS against the ATI X800 XT’s 50 FPS.
