Motherboards, Components, & Conlcusion
We have reviewed many motherboards here at PCPerspective over the past year. With so many to choose from currently here’s a list of notable motherboards and parts to help fill it out.
The Abit AA8 DuraMax 925X stands out as one of the best motherboards we have reviewed all year. While many other 925X motherboards have been released since then, Abit maintains their ground by having some of the most overclocking features available without sacrificing reliability or even warranty. Read our review of this motherboard here. Lowest price at time of publishing: $145.00
Not that we’re favoring this company, but another Abit motherboard is worth mentioning. The KV8-Pro is an excellent transition motherboard that supports your “legacy” AGP and DDR1 RAM. The only upgrade you need from an older Pentium 4 or Socket A system is a 734-pin Athlon CPU. Thie motherboard is value priced with some killer overclocking features. Read our review here. Lowest price at time of publishing: $80.52
The MSI K8N Neo2 nForce 3 Ultra motherboard is one of the best if you’re looking at Socket 939. It comes loaded with a lot of enthusiast features and connectivity. The nForce 3 chipset ensures some great overclocking potential. Read our review here. Lowest price at time of publishing: $132.73
If you’re looking for a CPU to go with that brand new Socket 939 board, then you should really look at the Athlon 64 3500+. It gives you a noticeable performance improvement compared to the 3200+ and the 3800+. Lowest price at time of publishing: $266.50
Thermalright’s XP-120 is probably one of the best performing coolers we have seen here on PCPerspective. It has great cooling capabilities and the 120mm fan support means it can also be very quiet. Read our review of this heatsink here.
The Athlon 64 3000+ is a great balance of price and performance for the Socket 754. Lowest price at time of publishing: $146.00
The Sempron 3100+ is a great budget CPU. It’s perfect for building a fully functional Socket 754 system without spending a lot. Lowest price at time of publishing: $121.00
So you own a Socket 755 motherboard and want a processor to go with it? The Intel P4 560 3.6 GHz badboy will astound you. Lowest price at time of publishing: $459.99 Or if that’s just a little too much to spend, then perhaps the P4 540 3.2 GHz is more resonable. Lowest price at time of publishing: $204.00 |
