Introduction
Today we look at two heatsinks from Swiftech that are designed to be high performance-low noise cooling solutions. The MCX64-V comes bundled with a quiet fan while the larger MCX6400-v leaves the fan choice up to the end user.
Swiftech has been supplying high-end cooling solutions to PC enthusiasts and overclockers for many years. Founded in 1994 as a Maintenance and R&D organization for Unix computers and imaging systems, Swiftech has expanded their product offerings to include air-cooled, water-cooled, and active thermoelectric (Peltier) cooled heatsinks.
Swiftech provides some of the finest waterblocks, complete water-cooling system kits and thermoelectric coolers to meet the needs of the hardcore overclocking community. They also continue to offer a full line of air-cooled heatsinks. In this review, we will be looking at two of their latest air cooling products, the MCX64-V and MCX6400-V heatsinks.
The Swiftech MCX-V series of heatsinks are designed to be high performance-low noise cooling solutions. They are available in five different mounting styles to accommodate all the popular CPUs and socket configurations. The MCX6400-V is a larger, heavier version of the MCX64-V intended for extreme applications and operating conditions.
- MCX462-V AMD socket 462
- MCX478-V Intel P4 socket 478
- MCX603-V Intel Xeon
- MCX604-V Intel Xeon (800 MHz system bus)
- MCX64-V AMD Athlon 64 and Opteron (OEM)
- MCX6400-V AMD Athlon 64 and Opteron (Extreme)

Both the MCX64-V and MCX6400-V heatsinks incorporate hybrid construction, which uses an array of aluminum pins pressed into a solid copper base. Each pin is machined in a helicoid shape, to increase surface area for enhanced heat dissipation. After insertion, the concentric rows of pins are bent outwards to further optimize cooling and reduce noise.
The MCX64-V comes fitted with a low speed 80mm fan and has been specifically designed to comply with AMD mechanical specifications (size and weight), while exceeding the thermal and acoustical requirements. The MCX64-V is primarily intended for OEM’s, system integrators, and users desiring a high performance cooling solution that strictly complies with AMD specifications.
The MCX6400-V offers extreme performance for AMD socket 754/939/940 users. It is the heaviest, and features a larger number of pins for higher heat dissipation than any other Swiftech heatsink. The MCX6400-V does not come with a fan, which allows users to customize the product to their particular needs.
