DVD to DiVX Encoding
Here we take a look at encoding 12 minutes of DVD footage into compressed DiVX files. Performing this activity is a little quicker on the Asus P5GD2 with the Pentium 4 560E than it is on the VIA K8T800 Pro running the Athlon 3200+. So for a 2-hour DVD, the Asus P5GD2 would be roughly 2 minutes faster than the K8T800 Pro. Once again the 915P using DDR RAM is very close to matching performance.
Maya 6.0 PLE
This is a new benchmark we are test-driving here on PC Perspective. This test takes advantage of the freely available Maya 6.0 Personal Learning Edition, and SPEC’s Maya 5.0 benchmark. The results you see here are not SPEC compliant, but still give you a good comparison between systems while using this professional grade 3D animation product.
Overall the Asus P5GD2 is a better choice for Maya. The extra CPU power and the PCI Express bandwidth for the graphics give it an edge over the older AMD systems using the AGP bus. The nForce 2 using the Radeon 9600XT naturally scores lower because the graphics card is acting as a bottleneck (see the GFX results).
