Doom 3

Chaintech Zenith V915P Motherboard Review - Motherboards 36
1024×768 – HIGH details.

Chaintech V915P (i915P) – Pentium 4 560E, 1GB DDR

Intel i915P with DDR2 – Pentium 4 560E, 1GB DDR2

VIA K8T800 Pro – Athlon 64 3200+ (754 pin), 1GB DDR

NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra400 – Athlon XP3200+, 1GB DDR

The Chaintech V915P does fairly well in Doom 3 despite its apparent slower performance in the synthetic benchmarks previously (Aquamark and 3DMark). The 42 FPS average is very respectable, but more importantly the minimum framerate is acceptable thanks to the newer X700 Pro video card.

There is minimal difference between the V915P and the 915P DDR2 systems. It would seem that DDR2 technology doesn’t have much of an advantage here.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War

Chaintech Zenith V915P Motherboard Review - Motherboards 37
1280×1024 Medium details. Unit Occlusion ON.

Chaintech V915P (i915P) – Pentium 4 560E, 1GB DDR

Intel i915P with DDR2 – Pentium 4 560E, 1GB DDR2

VIA K8T800 Pro – Athlon 64 3200+ (754 pin), 1GB DDR

NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra400 – Athlon XP3200+, 1GB DDR

Here we see something completely different from the results in Doom 3. Though they are both OpenGL games, it’s clear here that the memory bandwidth is a more important factor in Warhammer: Dawn of War. The Chaintech V915P is drastically slower than the DDR2 equivalent, though they are using the same chipset.

ATI’s latest X700 Pro is showing to be a much stronger performer in OpenGL than the older Radeon 9800XT.
