Gaming: Doom 3 and Far Cry 1.3
I ran the default timedemo, ‘timedemo demo 1’, three times on each resolution and quality setting, and took the average of the second and third scores. We ignored the first one as it was always much slower than the following ones as the game was caching textures off the hard drive.
The Intel 660 gets a few frames per second on the Intel 560 processor, but it isn’t even close to catching up with the top of the AMD line of processors. On the Extreme Edition front, the new 3.73 GHz iteration doesn’t seem to improve the picture at all here.
This is a custom demo we use in various PCP articles, run three times and average the second and third run throughs.
Again, on the gaming tests, the Intel 660 is doing pretty well, compared to the previous 560 processor. The new 3.73XE isn’t impressing over the 3.46XE, and AMD is still out in front, as we expect now, in the gaming front.
