Gaming: Doom 3 and Far Cry 1.3

Doom 3

I ran the default timedemo, ‘timedemo demo 1’, three times on each resolution and quality setting, and took the average of the second and third scores.  We ignored the first one as it was always much slower than the following ones as the game was caching textures off the hard drive.

Far Cry

This is a custom demo we use in various PCP articles, run three times and average the second and third iterations.

Finally, some real gaming tests to throw at the Pentium M platform.  I continue to be impressed by the speed at which this processor games —  at 2.0 GHz it is very competitive with the top Pentium 4 CPUs and at 2.4 GHz it blows them away.  In Doom 3 and Far Cry, even using the outdated single channel memory and AGP 4X graphics bus, it falls in line of performance between the Athlon 64 4000+ and 3800+.
