Foxconn 760GXK8MB Features & Bundle

Features

The Foxconn WinFast 760GXK8MB-ERS stands out from the rest of the 760 motherboards today by being the only one having the Firewire option on the back panel. None of the other companies, AOpen and ECS, offer Firewire at all on their SiS760 boards. This makes the Foxconn 760GXK8MB-ERS the only SiS760 option today if you want to do DV editing or use your iPod without an additional PCI adapter.

The Foxconn Winfast 760GXK8MB-ERS features Firewire.

Another feature exclusive to the Foxconn are a suite of BIOS features like “SuperBoot” and “SuperBIOS Protect”. More information on this in the BIOS section.

For drive connectivity, there are two parallel ATA connections for up to four legacy drives, and two SATA that supports RAID.

The 760GXK8MB can support up to eight USB 2.0 devices with four of these connections usable on the backpanel. This Foxconn is the only board in this article to include a USB expansion bracket.

LAN and the 5.1 AC’97 audio on the 760GXK8MB-ERS comes courtesy of Realtek. Like the other boards, the 5.1 audio uses jack sensing on 3 audio ports on the rear so you will have to swap cables or use the front audio if you use the microphone/line input with 4 speakers or more.

That pretty much summarizes the features on the Foxconn WinFast 760GXK8MB-ERS; it is essentially identical in features to all the other SiS 760 boards we’re reviewing today.

Package Bundle

In addition to being the only SiS760 board in this round-up to have Firewire, the WinFast 760GXK8MB-ERS is also the only board today that has a USB bracket and extra cables. There are two SATA cables, two parallel ATA ribbons, a floppy cable, a SATA ‘Y’ power splitter, and a 2-port USB 2.0 bracket. Compare this to the minimal packages of the other two boards.

Also bundled is the Socket 754 heatsink clip which you have to install yourself. As mentioned earlier with the AOpen board, only remove the covering to the adhesive if you’re sure you won’t be using any other heatsink aside from the stock cooler. Once the adhesive is on the board, it’s really hard to take off and may damage the motherboard in the process.

The software bundle contains all the drivers you will need and an evaluation copy of Norton Antivirus. Nothing fancy. Nothing unnecessary.
