In other chipset news, it looks that even though Intel is saying no chipset shortage exists, the motherboard vendors in Taiwan have very different opinons. 

Intel recently stated that the tight supply has improved, as the company is able to meet both shipment and lead-time goals for most motherboard makers. However, according to Jerry Kao, Asia Pacific regional marketing manager of Intel, the company will not build up excessive inventory, as that would be impractical and could pose a threat to the industry’s healthy supply chain.

Taiwan motherboard makers take that to mean Intel will only supply quantities that fulfill initial forecasts from customers. Under a scenario where the initial forecast falls behind market demand, Intel may not respond to the increase in demand accordingly. Therefore, the motherboard makers expect that a chipset shortage will become the norm in the long run.
