BTX Form Factor

BTX is still moving very slowly from an integration point of view.  At this last February’s Intel Developer Forum, I think I can count on a single hand the number of times that BTX was even mentioned.  While Intel has obviously not given up on the idea of BTX, many were speculating just that after Intel’s disregard for it over the past 6 months or so.  Here’s a look at what BTX materials we DID see at Computex this year.

AOpen showed support for the BTX platform with both a board and chassis here.

Again at the AOpen booth we see a more compact version called picoBTX that allows for smaller form factors and more compact designs.

MSI did also have a BTX motherboard based on the VIA K8T800 Pro chipset for the AMD Athlon 64 processor.  It was the only AMD BTX board we saw.

Abit was showing a BTX motherboard based on the 945 chipset from Intel.

Asus had a board based on the 915G chipset at their booth.

That was pretty much all the support we saw for BTX on the floor and that is actually pretty disappointing.  Intel had better step up their push for BTX if it is going to move on to the next phase of integration.
