This version of LAME is still a single threaded application and it shows on our results here.  The 820 takes 25 seconds longer than the next slowest processor, which happens to be the Intel 840 Extreme Edition.

Thanks to the multithreaded ability of the DivX codec, we see a decent performance out of the Pentium D 820 here.  It scores faster than all the single core processors, including the HyperThreading enabled Pentium 4 processors.  Here is one reason why a dual core Pentium D might be better than a faster, single core HT enabled P4.

WinRAR doesn’t shed a very good light on performance though, as again we see the 820 at the bottom of the pack.

PCMark again shows the benefits of dual core by having the 820 processor beat out all the single core processors in our suite, if only just barely.
