3DMark05
At the request of some of our readers, I have included results from the latest 3DMark benchmarks even though it slightly goes against the take on real world gaming. For a completely new architecture though, it can give us some valuable information on the possibilities for the 7800 GTX.
Our standard game tests show a fantastic score of 7741 at all default settings, a significant gain over both the 6800 Ultra and the X850 XT PE cards. SLI is able to show a 54% gain on that score as well, for an amazing 11954. When we turn on the AA and AF settings and bump the resolution to 1600×1200, the 7800 GTX scores 4617 in single card mode and 8833 in SLI, more than 3x the score of a single 6800 Ultra!
The 3DMark05 feature tests show some interesting results. The pixel shader test shows a significant advantage to the 7800 GTX over the other single card configurations, though the vertex shading test shows that the X850 XT PE is still faster in raw vertices per second processing. This may be attributed to NVIDIA’s claim of focus on pixel shading as being the main bottleneck in current gaming applications.
