BIOS Features
Asus has made a lot of progress over the past few years and have come to be some of the best BIOS engineers as well as board designers in the market today. Let’s see what the P5WD2 Premium has to offer.
First up we have the various options that Asus’ AI Overclocking offers us, though we still prefer the “by-hand” methods of overclocking, these can be helpful for beginners.
The top CPU frequency offered by this BIOS is 450 MHz! That should be more than enough for even the hardcore enthusiasts.
These settings adjust the memory ratios and as you can see Asus has included an option for DDR2-800 MHz memory speeds that will run out of synch with the processor FSB.
The ever-mysterious “Performance Mode” setting can be changed here but we usually leave it at Auto unless any instability creaps up.
You can also adjust the PCI Express speed independently here up to 150 MHz.
You have the option of locking or unlocking the PCI bus so that overclocking the FSB doesn’t affect your other PCI devices. Keeping this at 33.33 MHz is recommended if you are overclocking.
Memory voltage can be increased to 2.3v!
CPU voltage can be increased to 1.7v on the P5WD2.
The FSB termination voltage has these above options…
… and here you can change the voltage going to the north bridge chip too.
