Software

Software, unfortunately, has not changed since I review the KN1 Extreme a few weeks back. However, I still ended up testing all the parts just in case there was a change. Perhaps I hoped for too much? If you want to know more about this software package, please take a look at our review of the KN1 Extreme.

Documentation, Warranty, Support

ECS has always had strong documentation in their packages and the KN1 SLI Extreme is no different. The text is a bit technical, but also explains why you would enable or disable certain settings like security options. There are a few colour photos and diagrams in the manual which is very useful. Since all the parts on the KN1 SLI Extreme are color-coded, it makes sense that the documentation use the same colors to help the user identify these parts.

Warranty and support are two issues to consider when looking at the KN1 SLI Extreme. ECS motherboards come with 1 year warranty for items purchased directly from ECS (i.e. distributors, wholesale, vendors). For the rest of us, we are covered by the warranty provided by the retailer which should be at least 1 year, but this will vary from store to store.

It’s also worth noting that ECS requires you to send back all accessories (cables, etc) with the RMA. This is a bit unusual since most other motherboard companies tell you to just ship the board. So if you plan on doing any RMAing, make sure to retain all your parts!

ECS’ support is pretty typical of motherboard manufacturers. There is a self-serve FAQ section on their website, and a email form for any other questions. The FAQ only covers basic and common problems, so don’t expect anything obscure or complicated. If you’re really stuck, our user forums are the best source for quick technical support.
