Half-Life 2 Engine 7 – Town

Half-Life 2 (Direct X)

This was one of the most anticipated games in PC history, and even with the troubles it has had with Steam, HL2 drives-on as a great game and great benchmark for PC systems.  Below are the default settings we used for our testing today.  Actually, we enabled Reflect All instead of Reflect World and AA and AF were enabled where indicated.

Without AA enabled, the 7800 GT is able to just outpace the X850XT PE card in our first HL2 test. But with AA and AF enabled, the tables are turned and the 7800 GT falls just short of the ATI competition.

Here’s the catch though: with the XFX overclocked version of the 7800 GT, it actually is able to beat the ATI X850XT PE! The extra speed is able to overcome the advantages once held on this benchmark. That gives NVIDIA two cards that out perform the top of the line ATI product.
