Half-Life 2 – Town – Mid Range and Budget

Half-Life 2 (Direct X)

This was one of the most anticipated games in PC history, and even with the troubles it has had with Steam, HL2 drives-on as a great game and great benchmark for PC systems.  Below are the default settings we used for our testing today.  Actually, we enabled Reflect All instead of Reflect World and AA and AF were enabled where indicated.

ATI R520: Radeon X1800, X1600 and X1300 Review - Graphics Cards 197

Here is a typical scene from our Town run through:

ATI R520: Radeon X1800, X1600 and X1300 Review - Graphics Cards 198

ATI R520: Radeon X1800, X1600 and X1300 Review - Graphics Cards 199

ATI R520: Radeon X1800, X1600 and X1300 Review - Graphics Cards 200

ATI R520: Radeon X1800, X1600 and X1300 Review - Graphics Cards 201

ATI R520: Radeon X1800, X1600 and X1300 Review - Graphics Cards 202

This time we see the X1600 XT and the standard 6800 card about even par against each other, but the 6800 GT comes out ahead with its higher pixel pipe count over the 6800.

ATI R520: Radeon X1800, X1600 and X1300 Review - Graphics Cards 203

ATI R520: Radeon X1800, X1600 and X1300 Review - Graphics Cards 204

ATI R520: Radeon X1800, X1600 and X1300 Review - Graphics Cards 205

ATI R520: Radeon X1800, X1600 and X1300 Review - Graphics Cards 206

And just as in the previous series, here we see that the 6600 GT wins again, but with AA and AF enabled the X1300 Pro is much closer to catching up.  Can it do so on a single test today?
