Game Performance – Quake 4 and F.E.A.R.

In the previous benchmarks, we saw the EP-8NPA SLI perform near the bottom of all results just behind all the other Socket 754 motherboards, but hopefully in game benchmarks the EP-8NPA will show us something surprising.

In Quake 4, the EP-8NPA performs quite well falling 22 FPS slower compared to the more expensive EP-9NPA+ in SLI. With a single 6600GT card, the 8NPA nearly matches the 9NPA+ with only a 7% difference. What surprising is the 6600GT on the Intel 915P motherboard which performs faster using a single video card than the 8NPA in SLI. Let’s see how this all works out in FEAR.

In FEAR, we see more uniform performance across the different platforms. When using a single 6600GT card, the 915P, 8NPA, and 9NPA+ all match, whereas in SLI the 9NPA pulls slightly ahead. It would seem the surprising result in Quake 4 did not carry over into FEAR for the Intel 915P.
