A Closer Look
The Neo HE 500 power supply enclosure is painted gray and uses a single 80mm exhaust fan on the back for cooling (Adda AD0812HB-A71GL). The fan speed is automatically controlled by the internal component temperature (speeds up as the combined load and temperature increases). The Neo He 500 incorporates universal input (automatically adjusts the AC line voltage) and active PFC that adds to the units environmental friendliness.
An open grill on the front of the power supply allows air to enter the power supply for cooling.
The main power cable and +12V cable that feeds power to the motherboard are hard wired into the power supply. All of the other cables, which supply power to the peripheral devices, are modular and plug into one of the five connectors.
All five 6-pin connectors are the same. The individual cables are pinned according to the voltages they need to deliver. Each connector is fitted with a latching mechanism to insure connectors don’t work loose and become disconnected over time.
The Neo HE 500 power supply has a full assortment of cables and connectors. The main wiring harnesses measure approximately 18′ to 24′ long to the first connector and are covered to varying lengths with plastic mesh sleeving.
Main power connector (24-pin/20-pin)
- EPS 12V (8-pin)
- ATX P4 12V (4-pin)
- (2) PCI Express (6-pin)
- (6) Peripheral Optical/HDD (4-pin)
- (2) Peripheral FDD (4-pin, with adapter cable)
- (4) Serial ATA (15-pin)
- Fan speed sensor output (3-pin)
The main motherboard connector uses the newer style 24-pin connector that is designed to permit removing the extra four pins so no adapter cable is required when plugging into a 20-pin connector (much better 🙂
Here are a few pictures showing the layout and components inside the Neo HE 500 power supply. Parts are neatly arranged to allow for good airflow and cooling.
Excellent PSU! Glad to see
Excellent PSU! Glad to see that it is still marketed. I have this PSU in a steel case ANTEC tower which was acting as a server. I have the MAIN SERVER tower and a newer case from your company, too. The first mentioned has an ancient but very well endowed ASUS board.
I would like to buy extra pluggable cables for the supply because I shall use it with a more advanced motherboard.
Also; please inform and let me know if (upon opening PSU) Voltages can be tweaked. (I’m electronics engineer so no problem with spoiling anything!
Thank you, Robin Marstrand.

Thanks, Robin.
I have an issue with this PSU, maybe you can help.
I’m trying to jump start it without a computer. I connected the right pins (green and black).
The fan spins as soon as I turn it on, however, as soon as I connect it to any device the PSU turns off.
Thanks in advance.
