Performance and Conclusions

Rather than spend days testing these graphics cards I decided to play around with the cards for a little bit to make sure there are no inconsistencies, and then give you all an overview of the performance you can expect.

EN7900GT TOP Performance

Looking back at our original 7900 GT preview, we can see that it performed very well against the ATI X1800 series of GPUs.  Below are some performance graphs comparing the reference 7900 GT to the competing ATI card.

Keep in mind that these benchmark results are with a reference speed 7900 GT model, not the Asus EN7900GT TOP.  Taking into account that the Asus EN7900GT TOP has a 15% increase in core clock speed and a 20% increase in memory clock speed.  So, we can expect a 10-15% gain in total performacne in circumstances where the GPU is the main bottleneck.

EN7600GT Silent Performance

Looking at performance on the EN7600GT Silent is much easier to show as the clock speeds on the card are exactly the same as the reference model we tested originally

The 7600 GT easily provides a great gaming experience for mid-range systems.  And with the passive cooling that Asus provides on the EN7600GT Silent, you can play games without all the noise.

Pricing and Availability

The current selling price of the Asus EN7900GT TOP is about $320.  Compared to other overclocked 7900 GT cards, such as the BFG 7900 GT OC or the EVGA 7900 GT KO, the Asus card is priced nearly $30 higher.  However, the BFG card is clocked at just 475 MHz core clock and the EVGA card sports a 500 MHz core clock, giving the Asus card a distinct advantage in that area with its 560 MHz core clock.

The Asus EN7600GT Silent can be found online for about $220, and comparing that to other 7600 GT cards on the market, it seems a bit high.  The MSI 7600 GT can be found for about $190 and the XFX 7600 GT is priced around $185.  However, both of these cards use active cooling systems, meaning they are not going to be silent offerings like the Asus card.  If you value the silence of your PC, either for HTPC usage or other reasons, the Asus EN7600GT Silent is going to be your best bet.

Final Thoughts

The Asus EN7900GT TOP offers gamers a highly overclocked graphics card out-of-the-box, at a slightly higher price than some competing cards.  The added cooling capacity of a custom cooling solution designed by Asus’ engineers, as well as the added area of cooling the memory chips (which reference coolers do not do) are responsible for the extra cost.  The added overclock to 560 MHz core is pretty impressive though, and is only topped by one other retail card that I was able to find.

Asus EN7900GT TOP

The Asus EN7600GT Silent is a unique card in that a custom passive cooling system allows the card to operate at the same speeds as standard 7600 GT boards while running silently.  The rotating heatsink fins that are on top of the card allow it to fit in various installations including small HTPC cases where space is at a premium.  Again, the cost is slightly higher than the competition, but the price for innovation in the market should be more than worth it if you need a silent gaming PC.
