Even More Silverstone

Computex 2006 - Cases, Cooling and Power Coverage - Cases and Cooling 53

Silverstone wasn’t done yet with a couple of more cases that really stood out.  This first one is the Temjin TJ09 and has quite a few design features on it that we are glad to see here at PC Perspective.  First, you can see the power supply has been placed at the bottom of the enclosure and has ample room for even larger power supplies should you need it.  Can you say kilowatt?  Just to show you that the enclosure can handle the worst case scenario, Silverstone had their own 750 watt PSU in here, Quad SLI, AGEIA PhysX and an FX-62 AM2 processor all running without a hitch.  (Yes, we made them put the sides on!)

The duct between the hard drives and the system goes from one side of the case to the other and has a 120mm fan on it.  It draws air in from the outside of each side of the case and blows the cool air in towards the components.  This unique way of getting intake air should provide better air flow in most scenarios.

At the top of the case, there are two large, quiet 120mm fans for exhaust purposes.  Notice that with the PSU at the bottom of the case the CPU area is much less cluttered and can “breathe” better.

Though it is hard to tell from this angle, Silverstone has placed a fan below the hard drives so it can blow across the ever heat-producing drives that enthusiasts utilize.  The drive retention mechanism is incredibly simple as well as you can see moving the yellow clips allows us to remove the entire drive bay at one time.

This is what the other side of the case looks like with its side panel on.  With the openings you see here, the hard drive fan and the centrally located fan can both access cool air that hasn’t been tainted by heat from the system.

The rear of the case looks standard for a high end enthusiast product with a fan grate and a nice removeable motherboard tray with finger grip.

The other case that really stood out for me at Silverstone is the still in development SW02 unit seen here.  Meant as a home theater or rack mount PC, it integrates a 15″ touch screen panel for easy access of multimedia or server applications.

When not in use, the SW02’s monitor folds down and slides back under the case for storage.  This would make using an HTPC during troubling times where the remote might do the trick much easier but will no doubt greatly increase the cost of the system.
