Data Compression and Audio Encoding
Our own custom WinRAR benchmark, this test takes a large 650 MB text file and compresses it with the highest compression option.
This test does basically the same thing in the World Bench suite but with WinZIP instead.
LAME MT MP3 Encoding
This custom test uses the LAME MT engine to benchmark encoding a 650 MB WAV file into a standard 128 kbps MP3 file. We used the Microsoft compiler for the most fair results.
MusicMatch Jukebox 7.10
This World Bench test also encodes ripped WAV files into MP3 using the popular MusicMatch software.
All but the slowest speed grade of the Conroe core is able to outperfom the FX-62 CPU in our WinRAR test; the E6700 wins by nearly 25%! The Core 2 Duo E6700 also beats the FX-62 on the WorldBench 5 WinZIP test and the MusicMatch Jukebox 7.10 MP3 encoding test. In our own LAME MP3 encoding benchmark, the single threaded pass is 12% faster on the E6700 and the multithreaded test is nearly 25% faster.
