Newegg has been lowering their AMD Athlon FX and Athlon X2 prices during the week and I thought I pass on their current status and the best deals available!
First up, the mother of all AMD processors, the Athlon 64 FX-62 is now selling for $858, still an expensive processor but much lower than the $1100+ we have seen it at in the past! The X2 processors are probably going to be more appealing to you, with the X2 4600+ priced at only $329, the X2 4200+ at just $199 and the X2 3800+ for only $169!!! These are as much as 40% lower than prices we had last week, and if you are looking for an AMD-based upgrade, these processor kick some ass.
You’ll of course need a motherboard to go with that new AM2 processor, so might we recommend looking at the ever popular Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wirless Edition or maybe the Foxconn C51XEM2AA, both based on the nForce 590 SLI chipset? If you are looking for something a bit cheaper, the NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI chipset would be a good choice, and both the Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe and the Gigabyte M57SLI-S4 motherboard make a good selection for you.
And of course, with a new motherboard and new AM2 processor, you’ll need some new DDR2 memory to go along with the system as well. This Corsair DDR2-800 2 GB memory kit is selling for $177 after a mail in rebate and would do your system good! If you want the fastest memory you can get, then DDR2-1066 is for you and this Corsair XMS2 PC2-8500 2GB kit is the best offering, though pricey. Right behind it is the OCZ Platinum 2GB kit with PC2-8000 support!
