Internal components and Upgradability

The Asus W7J is not exactly the most upgradable laptop I’ve tested, most of the parts are hidden away inside the laptop while only a few parts are accessible to the user. Here’s what we have in terms of upgradability…

The CPU is upgradable with your typical Yonah Core Duo CPU. I have not tested compatibility of the W7J with a Core 2 Duo yet.

There is a single SODIMM slot you can upgrade on the W7J and it’s occupied by a 512MB Nanya SODIMM at the moment. There is another 512MB onboard for a total of 1GB. The Nanya RAM is #NT512T64UH8A1FN capable of 4-4-4-12 memory timings at 266MHz. The CPU and chipset is capable of 333MHz frequency, so I don’t know why Asus uses RAM of just 266MHz, perhaps to save costs?

Above is the 5400 RPM SATA drive. It’s not a 7200 RPM model, but it’s plenty fast for general usage. The drive is easily removable by pulling the strap to the left.

The wireless and modem modules appear to be hidden inside the laptop itself and not upgradable.
