Gaming

Our gaming tests set out to find games that were heavily CPU dependent in order to test for platform differences.  Games at higher resolutions with more emphasis on the GPU won’t show us any differences, if they exist.

These tests were not run in any SLI vs.CrossFire modes as we will be getting to that later.

FEAR v1.03

We ran FEAR at 1024×768 with the CPU settings at maximum and the GPU settings at medium to show any performance differences off of the GPU.

Call of Duty 2 v1.01

We ran CoD2 at 1024×768 with the GPU settings at Medium.

3DMark06 v1.02

This benchmark is used by many in the enthusiast crowd to compare their systems so we decided it would be good for our readers if we included numbers from our test system here as well.

While Call of Duty 2 and FEAR appear to say the Aurora 7500 isn’t as good a gaming machine as the DIY setup, remember that the DIY FX-62 system is using a single X1900 XTX card instead of the NVIDIA 7950 GX2 card the Alienware system uses.  Because these two tests are run at a low resolution, the dual-GPU configuration on the card actually slows down frame rates — though they are still VERY playable.

For higher resolution gaming, with higher image quality settings (as ANY GAMER THAT BUYS THIS SYSTEM will play at) we’ll see the Alienware setup is more than capable of holding its own.

High Resolution Gaming

While I didn’t directly compare the gaming frame rates of the Aurora 7500 against those of another system, I can tell you that the GeForce 7950 GX2 that sits inside of it is just as powerful as another we have tested.

Playing games on the Aurora 7500 like Battlefield 2, FEAR and Call of Duty 2 was a breeze and even through resolutions like 1920×1200, our widescreen resolution of choice, the system held up beautifully and performance great.

Here are some benchmark results from a BFG 7950 GX2 system, based on an AMD platform, to give you an idea of how a GX2 compares to some other NVIDIA and ATI GPUs:

The numbers here are really impressive — and the real world gaming stands up to the same levels of quality in the Aurora 7500.
