Half-Life 2: Lost Coast

Half-Life 2: Lost Coast (Direct X)

Lost Coast is the free technology demo that Valve created to show off their HDR rendering technique.  Because this method of doing HDR (high dynamnic range) lighting uses integer math instead of floating point, both ATI and NVIDIA cards can do both HDR and AA at the same time.

Here in our Lost Coast test, the 7950 GT is able to beat out the X1900 XT for the first time, taking the lead in 1600×1200 and 1920×1200 resolutions; the minimum frame rate is much higher as well.  1920×1200 was probably the best option for gaming on the 7950 GT, though some gamers might pull back IQ settings to get a faster frame rate.

Or you could just add another card; SLI at 1920×1200 increased our average frame rate by 80% and the minimum FPS by 69%.
