Power Consumption

In this test, we will measure the power consumption of the GeForce Go 7900 GTX and the GeForce Go 7900 GS by recording the number of Watts eaten by the Dell XPS M1710 laptops when plugged into the wall outlet. Data is gathered by recording the results in all three PowerMizer profiles.

At Balanced and Battery Save PowerMizer modes, there is little difference in power consumptions between the GeForce Go 7900 GS and the GeForce Go 7900 GTX. But when set to Performance, the GeForce Go 7900 GTX soaks up 16 more watts in Half-Life 2 and 12 more watts in 3DMark 06. It’s strange how the GS has a higher power consumption at Balanced mode than the GTX, and Cinebench shows lower power consumption on the GeForce Go 7900 GTX. Perhaps the Go 7900 GTX is more efficient at 3D rendering thus requiring less power in certain situations?
